Italian RFID firm Lab ID has introduced a new ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) RFID tag to be used for a variety of applications, such as management of disposable garbage bags containing recyclables. This project included readers from CAEN RFID and trash bags from Sfregola Materia Plastiche (SMP), who produces an RFID-enabled trash bag called the RadioBag. The Lab ID EPC Gen 2-compliant INSKYL2-G2iL tag, made with NXP Semiconductors’ G2IL chip, measures 54 millimeters by 18 millimeters (2.1 inches by 0.7 inch) and features a dipole antenna configuration. According to Lab ID, there are approximately 100 towns throughout Italy using an RFID-enabled system for intelligent waste management.
